WHEREAS, Women of Color HERStory Month® is a citywide celebration of the power, legacy and achievements of women of color that has been held annually since 2008 from February 15 to March 15 between Black History and Women's History Months; and,
WHEREAS, the Women of Color Social Network will take place on February 26th, the Kinks, Locks & Twists: Environmental and Reproductive Justice Conference on March 6th through March 9th and the New Voices Award on March 7th; and,
WHEREAS, this celebration of the culture, legacy and achievements of women of color in the Greater Pittsburgh Region, across the country and around the world is presented by New Voices Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh is building a social change movement dedicated to the health and well-being of Black women and girls through leadership development, Human Rights and Reproductive Justice; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh is the only Human Rights and social change organization for women of color, led by women of color and about women of color in Pittsburgh and is deeply committed to improving the health, well-being and quality of life for Black women and girls; and,
WHEREAS, New Voices Pittsburgh will celebrate ten years of organizing and serving 10,0000 women of color ages 12-35 in Pittsburgh through social change activism, civic engagement and leadership development; and,
WHEREAS, the lives and stories of women of color have gone untold and shall never be forgotten

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that February 15 - March 15, 2014 be declared Women of Color HERStory Month® in the City of Pittsburgh.
