WHEREAS, Joshua Yoskosky and Joe Fogiato are students in their junior year at the University of Pittsburgh, and jointly reside on Parkview Avenue in Oakland; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, January 31st between 5:20 and 5:30pm, Josh and Joe were preparing to leave for the Petersen Events Center when they overheard a distressed female voice outside; and
WHEREAS, Josh and Joe went outside and could see white smoke billowing from the upper level and open ground floor door of their neighbors' house, and an orange glow coming from the upper level through the window; and
WHEREAS, Josh and Joe knew that the Simons, an elderly couple, lived
next door; and that while Mrs. Simon had escaped and was standing outside, Mr. Simon was still trapped inside the house; and
WHEREAS, Josh and Joe entered the burning house to find Mr. Simon at the stairs struggling to make his way down. Josh and Joe lifted Mr. Simon to a standing position and proceeded to support his weight while he moved his legs down the stairs until they were all safely out of the house; and
WHEREAS, after they were all safely on the porch, Josh and Joe asked the Simons if anyone else was inside or if there was anything they absolutely needed; and then got them off of their porch due to a fear of the roof collapsing, and grabbed their porch seat for the Simons to sit on while waiting for the fire department to arrive.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Joshua Yoskosky and Joe Fogiato for their selfless and heroic efforts to save their neighbors from imminent harm caused by a devastating house fire; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 18, 2014 to be "Joshua Yoskosky and Joe Fogiato Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
