Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate the Sarah Heinz House Advanced Robotics Program for their success, and wishes them good luck as they advance in competition; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, January 28, 2014 to be “Sarah Heinz House Advanced Robotics Program Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Sarah Heinz House, a Boys & Girls Club, promotes healthy lifestyles and offers an environment that is welcoming, nurturing and challenging for youth in the Pittsburgh area; and
 
WHEREAS, the Sarah Heinz House Advanced Robotics Program (SHARP), traveled to Maryland to compete in the VEX Robotics Qualifying Event, where teams representing 38 schools and organizations designed and programmed robots to perform a series of maneuvers in head to head elimination rounds; and
 
WHEREAS, the VEX Robotics competition is the largest and fastest growing middle and high school robotics program globally, with more than 4,800 teams from 20 countries playing in over 300 tournaments worldwide; and
 
WHEREAS, SHARP, comprised of Lily Buchanan, Curtis Sobien, Kevin Selvako, Katrina Selvako, Luke Melcher, Ely Baraff and instructor Christine Nguyen finished 1st in their qualifying event, winning by 1 point in dramatic fashion; and
 
WHEREAS, the team will go on to compete in the next round of competition on March 1, 2014, in Haverford, Pennsylvania; and
