Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize and congratulate Dave Mazza on his richly deserved retirement from PRC, and thanks him for his passion for protecting the environment and his commitment to improving the City of Pittsburgh, and wishes him all the best in the future; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare January 14, 2014, to be David Mazza Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh is always pleased to recognize those citizens who, through dedicated and meaningful service, contribute to the good of our City and its residents; and,
 
WHEREAS, David Mazza is an outstanding example of such a citizen, having served for fourteen years as the Western Regional Director the Pennsylvania Resources Council  (PRC), where he has worked to improve the quality of life of residents of the City of Pittsburgh through resource conservation, recycling and litter prevention programs; and,
 
WHEREAS, joining PRC in 2000, as Regional Director, Dave has served in this role over the last fourteen years, launching drive-thru household chemical collections with 3.5 million pounds of harmful chemicals diverted from landfills since 2003 and the introduction of recycling and composting at Steelers football games and at dozens of major special events; and,
 
WHEREAS, under his leadership, the region has benefitted from the creation of numerous nonprofit organizations (including Construction Junction <http://www.constructionjunction.org/>, Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse <http://pccr.org/> and Scenic Pittsburgh <http://www.scenicpittsburgh.org/>; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dave helped start the Clean Pittsburgh Commission in 2005, a City Commission focused on improving the environmental quality of life for Pittsburgh residents through litter and illegal dumping prevention, cleanup and enforcement; and,
