WHEREAS, Doris Carson Williams is the president and CEO of the African American Chamber of Commerce, the second-largest minority chamber in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Doris Carson Williams became the Director of the Chamber in 1998 and was appointed president when the Chamber first established an office in 1999; and
WHEREAS, under Doris Carson Williams' leadership the Chamber has grown to over 500 members and is now ranked the 10th largest Chamber in our region, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times; and
WHEREAS, in 2009, Doris served as Co-Chair for the G20 Summit, which was held in Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Doris Carson Williams continues to build on her legacy of community service including serving on the International Women's Forum, the Board of Directors for Leadership Pittsburgh, the Urban League of Pittsburgh, and the Women's Executive Council; and
WHEREAS, Doris Carson Williams' service extends to organizations focused on a broad range of community issues, from the Western PA School for the Blind, to the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being a loving wife to James N. Williams, Jr., Doris is also the proud mother of James N. Williams, III and known among her friends as always being stylish and well dressed; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate Doris Carson Williams for her dedication to Community Service Leadership and Excellence in the City of Pittsburgh and throughout western Pennsylvania; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 10, 2013 to be "Doris Carson Williams Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
