Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare December 10, 2013 to be “Charles Allie Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, USATF (USA Track & Field) masters athlete Charles Allie, a resident of Pittsburgh, has been named the 2013 Best Masters Athlete of the Year by the World Masters Athletics Council in Monaco, capping an illustrious year in which he broke outdoor world records in the 200 meter dash (24.65 seconds) and 400 meter dash (56.09 seconds) and set an indoor world mark in the 200 meter dash (25.41 seconds); and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Allie attended Oliver High School in Pittsburgh where he broke records as a tack athlete, and Hampton University in Virginia in 1966 where he earned a scholarship as a walk-on, competing in sprinting events, relays, and the 400 meter dash; and,

WHEREAS, upon receiving his degree, Mr. Allie returned to Pittsburgh to begin a 35 year teaching career, as he also coached the girl's middle school sports of basketball, soccer and softball; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Allie's passion for running lead him to begin competing in the USA Master's National Competition at the age of 40, as he participated in his first WMA World Track Championship in 1998 in England, leading to other competitions in diverse locations such as Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, France and Brazil; and,

WHEREAS, throughout his competitive masters career, Mr. Allie has won several world championships in the sprint events and relays, set a world record at the 2003 WMA Championship for the 55-59 age group in the 400 meter dash, was inducted into the USATF Masters Hall of Fame in 2005, and is a member of the 4 by 400 meter relay team which holds the over 60 indoor and outdoor world records; and,

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh is honored to have a world class athlete of Mr. Charles Allie's stature as a representative of our city and our country throughout the world, and congratulate Mr. Allie on his many successes throughout his career, including his recent distinction as 2013's Masters Athlete of the Year and the fastest man alive in his age group;
