Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 17, 2013 to be “Warren United Methodist Church” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Warren United Methodist Church was started in 1880 in the home of Alfred and Martha Jackson, where their six children were taught by Rev R.C. Wells in a Sunday school class; and,
 
WHEREAS, three years later, the church conference assigned Rev B.F. Meyers to the church, with services held in Downtown Pittsburgh on Smithfield Street, in one of the Methodist Episcopal Book Rooms. With the newly organized church, Bishop Henry W. Warren was asked to preach the first opening sermon, and so impressed was the congregation that it voted to name the church Warren Methodist Episcopal Church; and,
 
WHEREAS, by 1904, the church had 175 members and moved to its current home at 2604 Centre Ave in the Hill District, where it continued to grow under the leadership of the Revs Charles Y. Tigg, R.W.S. Thomas, D. Dewitt Turpeau, G.R. Bryant, W.H. Dean and Dr. John Waters; and,  
 
WHEREAS, in the sixties, Rev. William Horner launched a capital campaign to help renovate the church and oversaw the merger with Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1968, forming the Warren United Methodist Church; and,
 
WHEREAS, in July of 1991, Rev. Clyde W. Henry was assigned to Warren from Philadelphia, and under his pastorate a new parsonage was purchased and a non-profit entity called Warren Community Outreach, Inc. was organized. October 31, 2002 was a great day when Warren Plaza, a 15 unit apartment complex for the elderly and people with special needs was dedicated; and,
 
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh congratulates Warren United Methodist Church on its 133rd Anniversary, as the members of Warren United Methodist Church celebrate Warren UMC's anniversary on November 17, 2013;
