Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend ECAN, and the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh for having this special Health Awareness Event; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of November 24 through November 30, 2013 to be “GERD Awareness Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Esophageal Cancer Action Network Information and Resources or ECAN in partnership with the Carnegie Libraries in Pittsburgh, will kick off an educational awareness campaign highlighting GERD Awareness Week from November 24, 2013-November 30, 2013; and,
 
WHEREAS, because heartburn can cause cancer, as part of ECAN's GERD Awareness Week the Carnegie Libraries will distribute free bookmarks to all patrons at all branches. The bookmarks list important risk factors to consider and a QR code linking to a free download of ECAN's Guide for Patients about GERD, Barrett's Esophagus and Esophageal Cancer; and,
 
WHEREAS, an educational discussion will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 6:30P-8:00P. The discussion will be led by Dr. Blair Jobe, one of the nation's preeminent and most innovative esophageal disease specialists; and,
