Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate the Yellow Cab Company on 100 years of excellence and service to the Pittsburgh region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, October 17, 2013 to be “Yellow Cab Company Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company, began service in 1912 as Pullman Taxi and formally became Yellow Cab of Pittsburgh in 1913, and has provided a valuable service to residents, visitors and business travelers in the Greater Pittsburgh area; and
 
WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company, has made a remarkable journey from its humble beginnings 100 years ago, to become the largest taxi cab company in the City of Pittsburgh, currently operating over 300 taxicabs; and
 
WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company was the first taxi company in America to utilize a telephone call box system and, as technology changed was once again a pioneer in the use of two-way radios, and now uses state-of-the-art satellite dispatch systems; and
 
WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company was the first company to recognize female drivers during World War II and hired the first African American drivers; and
 
WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company, has one of the nation's highest driver diversification numbers and service ratings; and
 
WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company, will be celebrating 100 years of serving the Pittsburgh region with innovations including global positioning to ensure prompt response time, using wheel chair accessible vehicles,  and featuring new, secure credit card machines; and
 
WHEREAS, the Yellow Cab Company's annual golf tournament donates all proceeds to Camp Kon-O-Kwee for children.  In addition they recently donated a fully equipped, sixteen passenger bus to the Camp.  The bus is outfitted for physically challenged, and hearing and visually impaired individuals.
