Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pittsburgh Musical Theater for their dedication to the arts and to the City of Pittsburgh's District 2 communities; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 15, 2013, to be “Pittsburgh Musical Theater Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Musical Theater (PMT) a non-profit performing arts organization located in the West End, was founded in 1990 by Ken Gargaro with the vision of creating a regional musical theater company committed to quality productions uniting the best of Pittsburgh's own professional talent at a price affordable to all residents, especially children and families; and,

WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh Musical Theater Company successfully produces Broadway favorites at the Byham Theater such as the 2013-2014 season line up featuring Miss Saigon, Shrek the Musical, Les Miserables, and Seussical the Musical and recently put on a free presentation of the season's line up at the West End Overlook Amphitheater; and,

WHEREAS, each year more than 500 students ages 2 to 18 study drama, dance and voice with The Richard E. Rauh Conservatory Theater Company, an educational company offering training at PMT, which showcases student talent in Broadway productions at both the Byham Theater and the New Hazlett Theater, supported by professional artists and musicians of PMT; and,

WHEREAS, in addition, PMT offers early childhood development programs, a Community Children's Theater which serves underprivileged children, a pre-college/transition program, and a mentoring program to assist high school juniors and seniors with the college application and audition processes regardless of their major; and,

WHEREAS, finally, PMT was the first local company to offer weekday student matinees of its main stage shows to local schools, many from inner-city or financially-challenged areas, followed by a Director's Forum allowing for a dynamic interaction between the audience, the director and cast members; and,

WHEREAS, most recently, PMT purchased the James Centre Building in the West End which will allow for the expansion of classrooms and programs with the hopes of becoming a resource center for the West End and surrounding communities; and,
