Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Martin Elikan for his many years of hard work and dedication to the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, and wishes him many happy years of retirement; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday October 18, 2013 to be “Martin Elikan Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Martin Elikan, a resident of the Stanton Heights neighborhood in Council District 7 of the City of  Pittsburgh, has lived a life of hard work and service, and has inspired those around him; and
 
WHEREAS, Martin Elikan, is the father of three children Howard, Beth and Cheryl, and the grandfather of five grandchildren;
 
WHEREAS, Martin Elikan, a graduate of Penn State University and loyally Nittany Lion Alumnus, began working for the City of Pittsburgh, City Controller's Office in 1989 as a Senior Accountant; and
 
WHEREAS, Martin Elikan is currently the Chief Accounting Officer for the City of Pittsburgh and in that role has been primarily responsible for the completion of the City's Annual Financial Report (CAFR);
 
WHEREAS, Martin Elikan is an avid amateur photographer whose artwork has regularly graced the cover of the City's Annual Financial Report; and
 
WHEREAS, Martin Elikan is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Associations (GFOA) and has earned eight (8) awards for Financial Reporting Excellence from the GFOA; and
 
WHEREAS, on October 18, 2013, Martin Elikan will officially retire after 24 years of outstanding service.
