Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 14, 2013 to be “Dr. Lola M. Thorpe Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Lola M. Thorpe arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1968 to serve as co-pastor with her husband, the late Bishop Eugene M. Thorpe, Sr., when he founded and pastored a new church in March of 1973; and,
 
WHEREAS, having served more than 40 years as a co-pastor, Evangelist Thorpe worked diligently on a vast array of projects that were given to her, including an interdenominational Prayer Luncheon, a married women's group and the "Women Out Working" conference, just to name a few; and,
 
WHEREAS, on Saturday, November 1, 2008, "Pastor Lola," as she is affectionately called, received her Doctorate of Divinity from the North Carolina College of Theology; and,
 
WHEREAS, Pastor Lola has rightfully received recognition from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review as one of Pittsburgh's 2011 Women of Excellence award recipients, as well as from the Baptist Minister's Conference of Pittsburgh for the Pittsburgh Circle of Courage Award; and
 
WHEREAS, as a mother of six children, grandmother of eighteen and great-grandmother of five, Pastor Lola has touched thousands by her life and ministry throughout the country and other parts of the world;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 14, 2013 to be "Dr. Lola M. Thorpe Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
