WHEREAS, Sean L. Gibson, grew up in Fairywood and graduated from Langley High School in 1987. Mr. Gibson received a basketball scholarship to Robert Morris, and transferred to Edinboro University on a scholarship in 1991 where he was Edinboro's second leading scorer graduating with a degree in criminal justice; and,
WHEREAS, in 1999, he became involved with the Josh Gibson Foundation in an effort to keep the memory of his great-grandfather, Josh Gibson, alive; and,
WHEREAS, Sean Gibson is most notably the best expert on the history of the Negro Leagues and is currently the Executive Director of the Josh Gibson Foundation which was founded in 1994 by Josh Gibson, Jr. in honor of his father, late Hall of Fame legend Josh Gibson; and,
WHEREAS, Josh Gibson Foundation partners with the Duquesne University by matching up college students with elementary and middle school youth for tutoring and serves approximately 300 children and sponsors the Josh Gibson Little League which is a partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates creating a positive change in Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, most recently, the Josh Gibson Foundation partnered with the School of Business Administration at Duquesne University to introduce the first targeted program in the Pittsburgh Public School District which presents sports careers beyond the playing field titled "The Business of Sports Academy (BOSA)" offering courses such as Sports Marketing and Media and Sports Law while offering college credits; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Sean L Gibson and the Josh Gibson Foundation for the exceptional work they do with our youth in the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 10, 2013, to be "Sean L. Gibson and the Josh Gibson Foundation Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
