Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Kansas and Rich Engler for their contribution to improving our community through the power of music; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 17, 2013 to be “Kansas Appreciation Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Kansas is a progressive rock band that during its 40 years has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and created several classics such as "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind"; and
 
WHEREAS, Kansas has a long history with the city of Pittsburgh, first playing here in 1975 at the Stanley Theater; and
 
WHEREAS, that show was so successful it cemented Kansas as a favorite of Pittsburgh and helped propel them to national prominence; and
 
WHEREAS, in the years since Kansas has remained popular in Pittsburgh even breaking the attendance record at the Civic Center in 1978; and
 
WHEREAS, Kansas has organized a 40th anniversary concert on August 17, 2013 at the Benedum Center to show appreciation for their fans in the City and beyond; and
 
WHEREAS, the organizer and promoter of the event, Rich Engler, has long ties to the band and to the city, first fighting to get them played on WDVE in 1975 and since organizing over 50 Kansas shows in the Greater Pittsburgh Region.
