Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Macaila Ziolkowski for her great achievement and dedication to the sport of soapbox racing; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, September 4, 2013, to be “Macaila Ziolkowski Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Macaila Ziolkowski, daughter of Donald and Heather Ziolkowski of Elliott, began competing in the Soap Box Derby on Father's Day 2012 and on July 27, 2013 at 13 years old, she won the All-American Soap Box Derby held in Akron, Ohio receiving a trophy, gold ring, a championship racing jacket and a $3,000 scholarship; and,
 
WHEREAS, she was one of 440 who earned the right to compete in Akron after about 6,000 boys and girls aged 7 through 17 competed in regional competitions across the U.S., Canada, Japan and New Zealand; and,
 
WHEREAS, she earned a spot on June 16, after winning the Greater Pittsburgh Soapbox Derby Stock Division title, where the combined weight of the car and driver must equal 200 pounds; in July she competed in the Superstock Division in which youth ages 9-17 build larger, heavier cars from kits. Her championship car will remain on display in Akron; and,
 
WHEREAS, Macaila is an eighth grader at St. Philip's School and her hobbies include dirt bike riding and camping with her family; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Macaila Ziolkowski for her great achievement and dedication to the sport of soapbox racing; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, September 4, 2013, to be "Macaila Ziolkowski Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
