Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend The Heitz 61 Memorial Foundation for its mission to memorialize the spirit and strength of Ryan Heitzenrater and congratulates the Foundation on its first exciting fundraiser to raise dollars to provide scholarships for higher education; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 6-8, 2013, to be “THE HEITZ 61 MEMORIAL FOUNDATION DAYS “in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Heitz 61 Memorial Foundation is a non-profit that honors the life of Ryan Heitenrater by promoting higher education and encouraging the physical well-being and teamwork of young people involved in sports by distributing scholarships and grants; and,

WHEREAS, Ryan Heitzenrater was a healthy and active 13 year old involved in a variety of team and personal sports who became ill in January 2013 with a viral infection that ultimately took his life. Ryan was an athletic, dynamic and dedicated teenager who played ice hockey for the Arctic Foxes Hockey Association for 8 years. He also played football, track and field and excelled at snowboarding at Seven Springs and in the Colorado Rocky Mountains; and,

WHEREAS, in order to preserve his memory, The Heitz 61 Memorial Foundation was created to help young people like Ryan achieve their dreams of sports and scholarship while forever remembering Ryan's indomitable strength and spirit ; and,

WHEREAS, The Heitz 61 Memorial Foundation will host is first fundraiser with The Heitz of Heaven Hockey Tournament on September 6-8, 2013 and The Heitz of Heaven 5K Run/Walk on September 7, 2013. The Hockey Tournament will be a 3 day Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament featuring 8 Bantam teams and 4 Girl teams. The Run/ Walk will take place around the RMU Island Sports Complex and runners will be timed by a Race professional. There will also be a Chinese Auction, a 50/50 Raffle, Food for all and two Public Skates; and,
