Title: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Paul "Bucky" Harrison as a dedicated servant to the rich history of Carrick High and South Pittsburgh and as an instrumental partner in fostering the continued connectivity and activity of Carrick High's alumni through the Carrick High Alumni Association. THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, August 11, 2013 to be Paul "Bucky" Harrison and the Carrick High Alumni Association Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Paul "Bucky" Harrison has dedicate his life to service for Carrick and Overbrook, the City of Pittsburgh, and our nation; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul was schooled at St. Basil's, St. Norbert's, Overbrook Junior High, and Carrick High School, class of 1948; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1949, attending Signal School at Fort Monmouth, NJ and on June 25, 1940, when the Korean War broke out, was assigned to the "Pusan Perimeter" with the First Cavalry Division, advancing and retreating up and down the Korean peninsula for the next 13 months; and
 
WHEREAS, after his tour in Korea, Paul was reassigned to Fort Eustis, VA to work on a new transportation program called the Tramway, which transported goods from ships onto the shore; and
 
WHEREAS, with an honorable discharge after three and a half years in the service, Paul then enrolled, through the GI Bill, at the University of Pittsburgh in 1951, majoring in journalism and serving on the staff of The Pitt News and the school yearbook The Owl, and later being named the editor of the student magazine The Omnibus; and
 
WHEREAS, after an internship stint at KDKA Radio, in 1956 Paul was offered the position of editor of the weekly newspaper The South Hills Record (formerly The Hill Top Record), where he worked for six years, eventually becoming owner of the publication; and
 
WHEREAS, after Paul sold the newspaper and worked for a time in the advertising field, he became Membership & Events Manager with the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, where his department set all-time membership recruiting efforts-and for the years 1986-1987, Paul was elected president of the National Association of Chamber of Commerce Membership Directors; and
 
WHEREAS, shortly after retiring in 1994, Paul began to get involved with the Carrick High Alumni Association, first initiating a newsletter and building up an active membership through luncheons and various reunion events and activities-the crown jewel of which is the Carrick High Alumni Veterans Wall, built along Parkfield Street and made up of engraved bricks which honor veterans of all services who attended Carrick High; and
 
WHEREAS, Paul will be honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of Carrick High at the Ninth Annual Carrick High Alumni Association Luncheon on August 11, 2013, where eight other alumni will be honored and where the Alumni Association itself will be celebrated for its 20 years of existence.
