WHEREAS, forensic science dramatically improves the investigation of criminal activity and has a critical role in public outreach and crime prevention; and,
WHEREAS, crime scene investigators, forensic examiners, and forensic scientists provide unbiased, accurate, and reliable analysis of evidence recovered from across the nation; and,
WHEREAS, in order to recognize the significant role that forensic science plays in the investigation of crimes throughout the City of Pittsburgh and the nation, the Major Cities Chiefs Association along with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies, the Major County Sheriffs Association and the Consortium of Forensic Science Organizations have designated the week of
August 11-17, 2013 as National Forensic Science Week; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh would like to recognize our Mobile Crime Unit, which is responsible for processing all major crime scenes including homicides, robberies, burglaries and sex assaults; and our Computer Crimes section which is responsible for the analysis of all digital storage devices, as well as the Allegheny County Crime Lab; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend all professionals in the forensic science field and recognize the invaluable contribution of forensic science to the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of August 11-17, 2013, to be "Forensic Science Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
