Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Dan Torisky for his remarkable commitment and achievements on behalf of autism spectrum members of our society and congratulates Dan for his selection as the Grand Marshal of the 2013 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, July 21, 2013, to be “DAN TORISKY DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in the words of Teddy Roosevelt, “Far and away the best prize in life that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” The life and work of Dan Torisky has not only proven to be work worth doing but work done passionately; and,

WHEREAS, Dan Torisky is the Co-Founder of the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and has served as the President and CEO since 1996. Since the autism diagnosis of his own son in 1960, Dan has made his life's mission the improvement of the lives of those with autism spectrum disorder and has touched countless families struggling with autism locally and nationally; and,

WHEREAS, Dan Torisky is also the co-founder/ Past President and current Secretary of the Autism Society of Pennsylvania whose work has resulted in autism-appropriate revisions in the PA Education Code, training of law enforcement officers, the nation's first group home for autistic individuals, in-school and on-site job training, the first autism extended school summer program and the statewide parent-driven autism resource website; and,

WHEREAS, Dan Torisky also helped create the Spectrum Charter School for Developmentally Disabled Adolescents and has been chosen to introduce Keynote Speaker, Gov. Tom Corbett, at the Autism Society of America's 2013 Annual Conference in Pittsburgh in July; and,

WHEREAS, Dan Torisky was also a founding member of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association in 1982 and has been instrumental in the organization's success as an active volunteer, Operating Committee Member and as a 30 year Board Member. Dan is the most recognized face of the Grand Prix and this year will serve as the 2013 Grand Marshal, leading the Parade and speaking at the Opening Ceremonies on Sunday July 21; and,
