WHEREAS, over Memorial Day weekend of 2013, City Charter High School students Angelica Miller, Jordan Wimbush-Minniefield, DeVaughn Davis, Morgan Crist, Lacey Jones, and Samantha Richardson went to Cincinnati, Ohio to participate in the Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) competition, a national entrepreneurship competition, as representatives of the City High SAGE team; and,
WHEREAS, the City High SAGE team has attended the annual SAGE competition since 2010, coming in 2nd place in 2012 and winning the competition this year, offering them the honor to represent the United States in the SAGE Global Competition in Nigeria in August of 2013; and,
WHEREAS, participating in SAGE has provided students with workforce skills, a first hand understanding of entrepreneurship and business operations, and an opportunity to compete among other SAGE groups nationally and internationally, giving students growth opportunities that aren't available in any class room; and,
WHEREAS, after moving to a new building in 2012, SAGE students worked diligently to develop a new business focused on recycling called SEED (Students Engaged in Environmentalism Downtown); and,
WHEREAS, the SEED program proved so successfully that it provided the SAGE team with the funding to travel to Cincinnati for the national SAGE competition, to give modest scholarships to SAGE seniors, and to make donations to Tree Pittsburgh and Heifer International, along with donations to purchase plants, flowers and bulbs to improve green space in the school's courtyard;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 9, 2013 to be "City High SAGE Team" Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
