WHEREAS, charities and those who volunteer for them across Pittsburgh work hard each day to transform lives, nurture human connections and build relationships across communities; and,
WHEREAS, these charities are reliant on the generosity of their supporters in order to provide valuable services and fulfill their mission to help those in need; and,
WHEREAS, social media is becoming a powerful tool for people to support the causes that matter to them and with Twitter and Givver, followers are being turned into givers; and,
WHEREAS, Givver is rallying the American social media community to set a world record on "Social Media Giving Day", Monday, July 15, 2013, for the most donations given in one day through social media and is generously providing their technology free in order to have the most impact; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the volunteers who generously give of their time and thank Twitter and Givver for making giving easier; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, July 15, 2013, to be "Social Media Giving Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
