Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Alica Akrie for her determination and creativity in the field of fashion; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 9, 2013, to be “Alicica Akrie Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Alicia Akrie grew up in Chartiers City with her parents Gerald and Carol and  is a 2007 graduate of Pittsburgh Perry High School and a June 1, 2013 graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta Georgia where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree; and,  
 
WHEREAS, on March 21, Alicia was recognized at the Fine Art and Fashion event hosted by the National Black Arts Festival and Neiman Marcus,  as the winner of the wild-card entry in the M. Jack Anderson Emerging Talent Award competition, which recognizes students who have excelled academically and distinguished themselves as creative innovators in the field of fashion design; and,
 
WHEREAS, as one of the winners, Ms. Akrie received a $3,000 honorarium and her winning garment was displayed in the Atlanta Neiman  Marcus store window from March 4 to March 24, 2013; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Alicia's designs were inspired by Psalm 23 and by her family, particularly her grandmother Dorothy Akrie, a home seamstress for family and friends who encouraged her to strengthen her talents and not to set boundaries for her artistry; and,
 
WHEREAS, in addition to her award, Alicia was selected by the faculty of SCAD to work with Designer Mimi Plange; and her designs were selected by industry jurors to be showcased at SCAD's annual Seen Gala and Fashion Show and was one of the featured designers in "The Show" Fashion Show in the Summer of 2012; and,
