Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Paul Dykes for his dedication to the Pittsburgh region ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 22, 2013, to be “ Paul Dykes Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Paul Dykes was born on June 19, 1923 in Youngstown, OH. He attended Rand High school where he played basketball and football. He went onto to attend Youngstown University where received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration; and,
 
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Mr. Dykes began working at the YMCA in New Castle as the Executive Director for the branch. Due to his great work ethic he was then transferred to the Centre Avenue YMCA where he was the Assistant Director for 3 years.  Dykes then became the first African-American Executive Director for the Homewood-Brushton YMCA, where he served the Homewood Brushton community for 5 years ; and,
 
WHEREAS, After serving at the Homewood- Brushton branch Paul Dykes was promoted to the first African-American Vice President for the YMCA in Pittsburgh. He was responsible for 19 different YMCA branches in around the Pittsburgh region. He later retired in 1987 after 20 years of service; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Paul Dykes has been a member of the Nazarene Baptist Church in the Homewood area of Pittsburgh for over 50 years; where he served on the board of trustees.
He has 1 daughter, 2 grandchildren by his natural daughter, and multiple grandchildren by his step children; and,    
 
WHEREAS, Many of the Paul's mentees have seen much success like Malik Bankston of the Kingsley Association, Thelma Lovett of the Thelma Lovett YMCA,  and Luther Sewell just to name a few. On Saturday, June 22, 2013 family and friends will come to the Homewood-Brushton YMCA to celebrate his 90th Birthday; and,
