Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend LIFE Pittsburgh for the compassionate work they do to enable our seniors to preserve their independence; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 25, 2013, to be “LIFE Pittsburgh Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, In the fall of 1997, Joann F. Gago was hired and began development of the first Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Long Term Care Capitated Assistance Program (LTCCAP) in Western Pennsylvania, known as LIFE Pittsburgh; Living Independence For the Elderly; and,
 
WHEREAS, LIFE Pittsburgh was founded as a corporation in June of 1998 and opened with the Department of Public Welfare's approval and its first participant in February of 1999 and in February, 2003, LIFE Pittsburgh opened the North Shore Center; in February 2005, Green Tree Center opened; and in June of 2008, two additional centers opened in the Allegheny Center complex; and,
 
WHEREAS, LIFE Pittsburgh provides an alternative to nursing home care by arranging for older adults, who want to remain in their home and community, a full array of health and social services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year; and,
 
WHEREAS, because of the passion of Joann and her staff, LIFE Pittsburgh has been able to assist 1,078 seniors in Allegheny County maintain quality, dignity and autonomy in their lives and avert nursing facility placement; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend LIFE Pittsburgh for the compassionate work they do to enable our seniors to preserve their independence; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 25, 2013, to be "LIFE Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
