Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Gena Turner for her dedication to the Elliott Community and the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 1, 2013 , to be “Gena Turner Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Ms. Gena Turner grew up in the Elliott neighborhood of Pittsburgh where she has attended Thaddeus Stevens, St. James and Langley High School; and,
 
WHEREAS, Gena currently serves as the acting president of the Elliott Community Group which was founded in January, 2011 and serves the community and acts as a grass roots organization to support to the District 2 Council Office and has become an invaluable asset to the Elliott neighborhood; and,
 
WHEREAS, since the group's onset, Gena has coordinated spring cleanups in Elliott, with the most recent one held in April of this year with 32 community members attending, she has organized the second annual Winter Wonderland, July 4 Community Day Extravaganzas, and has planted community gardens; and,
 
WHEREAS, in addition to the Elliott Community Group, Gena is an animal rights activist who volunteers with Animal Advocates, and The Humane Society; she is a member of the West End Alliance, and former member of the extinguished Elliott Citizens Council, and has helped surrounding neighborhoods with cleanups; and,  
 
WHEREAS, in spite of Ms. Turner's continual challenges surround her personal health, she also takes time to help with charitable events and is a loving mother to her two children, Mark and Angie and grandmother to her pride and joy Adina; and,
