Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Jerusalem Baptist Church over 112 years of Christ Centered Service; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday June 2, 2013 to be “Jerusalem Baptist Church Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jerusalem Baptist Church was founded in 1901 and was located at 20 McKnight Street in the West End section of the City of Pittsburgh with Reverend Pat Richardson residing; and,
 
WHEREAS, succeeding Reverend Richardson was Reverend Joseph F. Green, Reverend Bruel Edmondson, Reverend Albert Barnes, Sr., who has served as pastor an astonishing 51 years from 1940-1991, Reverend D. Alfred Brown, Reverend Darius J. Jeffries and the current pastor,  Rev. Theodore E. Pugh, Sr.; and,
 
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Reverend Barnes, Jerusalem Baptist Church outgrew its first official Church home located at 419 Independence Street and in 1945 the Church secured a new Church home located at 123 Steuben Street, where they currently reside and a parsonage directly across the street at 129 Steuben Street; and,
 
WHEREAS, on April 18, 1982 Jerusalem Baptist Church was found to be architecturally and historically significant by the Pittsburgh Historical and Landmarks Foundation; and,
 
WHEREAS, under the current guidance of Rev. Theodore E. Pugh, Sr., Jerusalem Baptist Church continues to serve as a landmark uniting African Americans in the west end, providing social and spiritual leadership; and,
