Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Sam and DeDe Palombini for their outstanding volunteerism efforts on behalf of the residents of Sheraden; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 28, 2013, to be “Sam and DeDe Palombini Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, life long residents of Sheraden, Sam and DeDe Palombini will be married 62 years in October and have devoted their entire lives to the improvement of their neighborhood of Sheraden. Both graduated from Langley High School and continue to help with both class reunions and other events; and,

WHEREAS, Sam and DeDe are the proud parents of 4 children; Kathy, Susie, JoAnn and Sammy; have 13 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren and needless to say have attended countless numbers of sporting events including softball, baseball, lacrosse, drill team, football, hockey and cheerleading; and,

WHEREAS, DeDe Palombini was a past member and officer of Holy Innocents Christian Mothers, a Girl Scout leader who has taken many girls on weekend camping trips as well as day camps in Sheraden Park; past President of the Sheraden Civic Club, and helped to start and organize the annual Halloween Parade which she is still involved with today. DeDe was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years and has been a longtime volunteer at Ohio Valley General Hospital since 1972 and still helps every Monday; and,

WHEREAS, Sam Palombini was the Commissioner of the Sheraden Football Association for 13 years, long after his children were finished. Sam is a past president of the Sheraden Community Council and continues to volunteer with the Christmas tree festivities and the garden planting at the firehouse; in cooperation with the City of Pittsburgh, Sam helped to establish a grass cutting program for senior citizens in Sheraden and helped manage local youth that need to do community service through the local magistrate office; and

WHEREAS, Sam and DeDe have been recognized in many ways including recipients of the Jefferson Award and Sam was one of twelve volunteers who received the first “Bob Awards” by the Clean Pittsburgh Commission, but their most cherished award comes from their children who have named them the best parents and grandparents anyone could have; an...
