WHEREAS, Originally named Christmas in April, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh, has been dedicated to keeping low income elderly and disabled homeowners living in warmth, safety, independence, dignity, and decency through home repair for twenty years; and,
WHEREAS, the organization's Signature Event is National Rebuilding Day, which is the last Saturday of every April when close to a thousand volunteers unite in their efforts to rehabilitate the homes of low-income senior citizens and renew communities throughout Allegheny County; and,
WHEREAS, the results of the organization's work in 2013 will be the repair and stabilization of homes for more than 200 families and the engagement of nearly 2,000 community volunteer; and,
WHEREAS, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh relies on volunteers and sponsors who represent individuals, scout troops, trade unions, corporations, businesses, foundations, civic groups, congregations, schools, hospitals and sports teams; and,
WHEREAS, FedEx Ground and Duquesne Light have generously committed their human and financial resources to the revitalization of at least 10 homes in the West Pittsburgh neighborhoods; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh for their 20th year of serving the elderly and disabled; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, May 23, 2013, to be "Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
