WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children and families and safeguarding individual rights and freedoms; and,
WHEREAS, the prestigious Hannah G. Solomon Award is presented to an individual who has helped change and expand the role of other women in vital areas of community life, demonstrates leadership in improving the quality of life for people of all ages and background and who motivates others to fight for change which has resulted in progress or enlightenment in the community; and,
WHEREAS, for only the 16th time in its 120 year history, the Pittsburgh Section of NCJW will present the Hannah G. Solomon Award to Judy Greenwald Cohen at its Annual Meeting on May 30, 2013; and,
WHEREAS, Judy Greenwald Cohen served as Section President from 2004-2006, served as an NCJW National Commissioner and earned Section's Ruth and Jerome Lieber Leadership Award. Judy's reach in the community is impressive, working on behalf of women and girls in the region and tackling complex issues impacting the care of children and young adults with disabilities. Judy has been an extraordinary leader in the community and as the current Executive Director of the Jewish Women's Foundation, she has spearheaded a partnership with NCJW to create the Center for Women

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the remarkable leadership , dedication and commitment of Judy Greenwald Cohen and congratulates her for receiving the prestigious Hannah G. Solomon Award from the National Council of Jewish Women ; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 30, 2013, to be "JUDY GREENWALD COHEN DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
