Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. Bob Jacoby for his exceptional career and service; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, May 19, 2013, to be “Coach Jacoby Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Bishop Canevin High School's Head Football Coach, Mr. Bob Jacoby, retired on January 9, 2013 after 40 years of service as Head Coach and retired from teaching at the end of the 2011-2012 school year; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Jacoby is a graduate of North Catholic High School and graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1968 when he joined Canevin's staff as a history teacher and assistant football coach and became head coach in 1973; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 1975, Jacoby introduced the Crusaders to the Western PA Interscholastic League (WPIAL); until then, the Crusaders played in the old Pittsburgh Catholic League. He won a WPIAL Class AA championship and a PIAA championship in 1990; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Jacoby was one of the longest-tenured coaches in the WPIAL and his career record of 238-170-7 put him 11th on the WPIAL all-time list for coaching wins; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Jacoby was Bishop Canevin's athletic director for 30 years and the girls softball coach for 30 years where he won two WPIAL titles and one PIAA championship as softball coach; and,
 
WHEREAS, in 2007 he was awarded the Distinguished Educator Award from Bishop Canevin High School and in 2010 Coach Bob Jacoby was nominated by the Steelers and was  finalist for the first-ever Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year Award which was created to honor exemplary football coaches at all levels of the sport who display integrity, achievement, and leadership; and,
