WHEREAS, The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 95 (IUOE) is a progressive, diversified trade union that represents stationery engineers who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes and in the service industries; and,
WHEREAS, The International Union of Operating Engineers has jurisdiction over all repairs necessary to keep the machine in operation, on machines operated by members of the International Union of Operating Engineers on the site of the operation ; and,
WHEREAS, in 1992, IUOE purchased the former St. Joachim Catholic Grade School located in the Greenfield section of the city and over the last 22 years, has invested over $1 million renovating and improving the building to make it an asset for the community ; and,
WHEREAS, the IUOE Local 95 Building in Greenfield has served the community since 1996 by allowing the space to be used not only as a union hall but also as a space for public meetings, funerals, baptisms, confirmations and voting. It is also used as a training location for 2,400 people annually, many of whom are not IUOE members. IUOE has also implemented green features, including solar panels on the roof and a rain barrel demonstration project, earning the structure the designation as an "Energy Star" building.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 95 for its investment in its property and its community and congratulates Local 95 for its willingness to make this resource available to the community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday , May 10, 2013, to be " IUOE LOCAL 95 DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.
