WHEREAS, the Cancer Caring Center is a Pittsburgh community resource whose mission is to help cancer survivors, their families and concerned friends cope effectively with the emotional impact of cancer through a variety of free support services ; and,
WHEREAS, the Cancer Caring Center, established in 1988 by 4 principle founders who are still Board Members, began as a Telephone Hotline and almost immediately expanded into a full service agency; and,
WHEREAS, the Cancer Caring Center is celebrating its 25th Anniversary throughout 2013 by promoting their Survivor's Day celebration as well as their wide range of services such as counseling, neighborhood support groups, pet therapy, art, reiki, zumba, children's support, food pantry assistance in collaboration with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the Telephone Helpline; and,
WHEREAS, the Cancer Caring Center believes that there is no right or wrong way to cope with the emotional aspects of cancer, that you do not have to confront cancer alone and that a person with cancer is a survivor, not a victim.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Cancer Caring Center for 25 years of outstanding support to cancer survivors and their families and friends in the Pittsburgh region; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 14, 2013, to be "CANCER CARING CENTER DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
