WHEREAS, following the closure of Oliver High School, the former McNaugher School moved to its new location in the Oliver Building for the 2012-2013 school year, and began a new chapter as Oliver Citywide Academy; and
WHEREAS, in its first year under the leadership of Principal David Lott, Oliver Citywide Academy showed significant academic growth and qualified as a STAR (Students and Teachers Achieving Results) school, among several other schools in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, the Oliver Citywide Academy boys' basketball team, led by head coach Patrick Gallagher and Assistant Coach Patrick Walsh, overcame adversity to win the WPSAL (Western Pennsylvania Scholastic Athletic League) championship, after finishing runner-up three years in a row; and
WHEREAS, the members of the 2012-2013 Oliver Citywide Academy boys' basketball team are:
Delvan Stevens; Jaimon Russell;
Lamont Hall; Marcus Allen;
Damiene Young; Jamonte Johnson;
Ryan Buckner; Shaaquan Bell;
Mike Burse; Shakeem Griffey; and
Shakur Eackles; Darby Tigney; and
Anthony Baltimore;
WHEREAS, following graduation this Spring, the seniors from the boys' basketball team will move on to various universities and trade schools, while others will seek employment; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate the Oliver Citywide Academy boys' basketball team for their achievements; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 14, 2013 to be "Oliver Citywide Academy Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
