Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Jewish Family and Children's Service of Pittsburgh on its imprint and impact in the Pittsburgh region and congratulates Fern Schwartz for receiving the Mermelstein Award for her leadership and dedication at the agency's Annual Meeting; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, May 13, 2013, to be “JEWISH FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Jewish Family and Children's Service of Pittsburgh is an independent , nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children, families and adults of all ages throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area by providing psychological, employment and social services; and,
 
WHEREAS, for over 76 years, JFCS has continuously adapted their programs and services to meet the changing needs of their dynamic population, delivering essential psychological, employment and social services to alleviate hardship and support people in times of need; and,    
 
WHEREAS, JFCS has been guided by Jewish tradition of social responsibility and is committed to treating all people with dignity and compassion, providing culturally relevant services, helping people to help themselves and collaborating with other to broaden their reach. JFCS is known as a leader in providing innovative and effective social service solutions; and,
 
WHEREAS, JFCS will hold its Annual Meeting on Monday, May 13, 2013, where the organization will celebrate The Imprint and Impact of Collaboration, recognize and honor key individuals who have contributed to the success of the agency and will award the 2013 Mermelstein Leadership Award to Fern G. Schwartz for her commitment to the community, her dedication to the mission of the Jewish Family and Children's Services and her strong leadership.
