WHEREAS, Temple Sinai is a Reform Jewish congregation in Squirrel Hill whose mission is to provide a welcoming and caring spiritual community for gathering, study and worship; and
WHEREAS, Temple Sinai is celebrating Senior Rabbi James Gibson's 25th year as spiritual leader of the congregation; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his pulpit and congregational responsibilities, Rabbi Gibson chairs the Jewish Unity Project for the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, convenes the Priest-Rabbi Dialogue sponsored by the Diocese of Pittsburgh, and serves as co-chair of the Jewish-Christian Dialogue; and
WHEREAS, Gibson is much beloved for his deep sense of community, his welcoming spirit, his tireless efforts to build bridges with other faiths, and his inclusive dedication to learning and teaching; and
WHEREAS, the anniversary celebration includes dinners, special services, and a Celebration Concert on May 4 starring world-renowned singer/songwriter

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Rabbi James Gibson for his years of service to Temple Sinai and his outreach to City residents of all faiths; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 4, 2013 to be "Rabbi James Gibson Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
