WHEREAS, in 1993, Florence Reed and Randi Rubin formed a support group concerning problems they both experienced in the workplace only because they were disabled, believing that society would never fully embrace employees with disabilities until work myths were dispelled and barriers were removed; and
WHEREAS, they desperately wanted to provide vital information for other women and young girls with disabilities to better prepare them in selecting and pursuing a career as they enter an unfriendly workplace environment for women with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, since its founding in 2001, the services provided by Working Women with Disabilities include ongoing workshops, job readiness training and job development, and support to women with disabilities for various groups throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, a teacher by profession, Carolyn Glass is the founder of Empowering Women's Dreams, served as a parent advocate for students with disabilities and their families with the Local Right to Education Task Force, an active member of the Pittsburgh Local Interagency Coordinating Council and founder and original board member of the innovative Center for Creative Play in Pittsburgh which provides a safe, multi-sensory, indoor play space for children with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Glass brings a rich history to her advocacy work, and has conducted diversity trainings, disability awareness, and civil rights history workshops for school and community groups throughout the region as well as in other states; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Glass, a resident of Pittsburgh's Northside is most of all the loving wife of Michael, and mother of 10 children, two with severe disabilities - always a great and loving family woman; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, May 2, 2013, community members will gather at LeMont on Pittsburgh's Mount Washington, for the 10th annual Working Women with Disabilities, Linda Dickerson Award Dinner for a celebratory evening honoring ...
