WHEREAS, Denise Pillard is a life-long resident of Arlington along with her parents, Bob and Al Pillard, and her sister, Robin Pillard; and,
WHEREAS, for 25 years, Denise worked at Mike's Lunch, a dining staple of the Hilltop community, forging bonds with her co-workers and customers; and,
WHEREAS, after Mike's Lunch closed, with the support of Arlington residents as well as her daughter, Nicole, and son-in-law, George, Denise opened her own restaurant last year, naming it Denise's Diner, and hiring some of her former coworkers from Mike's Lunch to help her with her new project; and,
WHEREAS, Denise's Diner is approaching its one year anniversary of serving its Arlington neighbors, and is located at 2332 Arlington Avenue, opening early for breakfast at 6 AM and closing after lunch at 2 pm, Monday through Saturday every week of the year; and,
WHEREAS, known especially for delicious burgers and hearty breakfast plates, Denise's Diner has become a new Pittsburgh culinary destination for the Arlington neighborhood as well as the entire Hilltop; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 30, 2013, to be Denise's Diner in the City of Pittsburgh.
