WHEREAS, The Boys Varsity Swim Team at Obama Academy led by Coach Mark Rauterkus had an undefeated season and became Section Champions, Class AA. This is their best accomplishment, and a team honor; and,
WHEREAS, The boys team got 13th in the WPIAL this year at the WPIAL Championships held at The University of Pittsburgh. The boy's performance in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay went faster than the City Records, a new category that includes all swim performances from all City and WPIAL teams from all time. The relay team swimmers were Ben Friedman, Tommy Brewton, Yoka Rooney and Erik Rauterkus; and,
WHEREAS, As part of the co-ed team, the varsity letter earners include: Erik Rauterkus, Tobias Raether, Jonah Raether, Max Okabayashi, Ben Junker, Demitri Lardas, Matt Lampl, Daniel Goldstein, Sam Lapp, Ben Friedman, Tommy Brewton, Yoka Rooney, Joe Kovalik-Haas (from CAPA,) Grant Rauterkus, Marshal Melynik, Owen Bailey, Sam Okabayashi, Derrick Hodge, Zach Lardas, Josh Opalko, Aaron Lickel (of Sci-Tech,) Samson Olabode and Dustin Butoryak (of CAPA.); and,
WHEREAS, The Seniors will go on to: The University of Pittsburgh, Penn State, Carnegie Mellon University, Swarthmore, Colorado, and two are going to take a 'gap year' while working in a VISA like program called, "City Year" (Jonah in Milwaukee and Tobias in Seattle); and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Boys Varsity Swim Team for their hard work and achievement; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, April 23, 2013, to be "The Obama Academy Boys Varsity Swim Team Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
