WHEREAS, Dr. Murphy J. Keller, III has been a pioneer in his community and has made significant strides in his career thus far; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Keller is a native of Simmesport, Louisiana, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rush College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Biology, and became with first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) graduate to be employed by the Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center (PETC); and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Keller is currently a Research Chemist with the National Energy Technology Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy in Pittsburgh and has received many awards and memberships including, but not limited to, Gold Award of Excellence, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, and the American Chemical Society; and,
WHEREAS, a devote Christian and strong in his faith, Dr. Keller is a Disciple for Christ at Pittsburgh's Mount Ararat Baptist Church and a junior Deacon at New Bethel/ Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Simmesport, Louisiana; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Keller attributes his up-bringing to being initiated as a Free Mason in The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania Jericho Lodge No. 20 and has held many positions within the organization including being the current Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master for the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, accrediting his accomplishments to God, a strong Spiritual family, an understanding an devoted wife and children, and a willingness to help other, citing "by helping others, you help yourself, Dr. Murphy J. Keller, III has been an incredible asset to the Pittsburgh community;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 7, 2013 to be "Dr. Murphy J. Keller, III" in the City of Pittsburgh.
