WHEREAS, it is our collective responsibility to provide for the well-being of our children by passing on a strong work ethic, teaching them a sense of right and wrong and giving them support, guidance and skills to ensure that they have every opportunity to succeed; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Board of Education Member Mark Brentley Sr. is the Founder and Co-Chairperson of Take a Father to School Day, which is celebrating its 15th Annual Day, and was designed for the School Board to implement and embrace the idea that fathers are important to the educational process; and
WHEREAS, Take a Father to School Day emphasizes the involvement of both parents in the lives of their children in order to respond to and reverse societal trends that have lessened and discouraged the participation of fathers in the formal education of their children; and
WHEREAS, for the sake of our children, the well being of our neighborhoods and the future of our nation, fathers of school age children are encouraged to participate to the fullest extent possible in their children's education and to take the opportunity to attend school with their children on May 17, 2013; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme for Take a Father to School Day is "Yes Eye Can" in which fathers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to a local food bank and to bring used eye glasses to be donated to those in need;
