Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for recognizing Judge D. Michael Fisher with the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence for his outstanding career and achievement in the field of law and justice; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, April 10, 2013, to be “Judge D. Michael Fisher Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and
 
WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has honored the memory of Judge Robert E. Dauer with an award in his name for Judicial Leadership and Excellence to members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence is the Honorable D. Michael Fisher, Circuit Judge <Federal%20Judge> on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit <United%20States%20Court%20of%20Appeals%20for%20the%20Third%20Circuit>; and
 
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher began his legal career in his hometown of Pittsburgh following his graduation from Georgetown University <Georgetown%20University> in 1966 and Georgetown University Law Center <Georgetown%20University%20Law%20Center> in 1969, and as an Assistant District Attorney for Allegheny County <Allegheny%20County,%20Pennsylvania>, he handled nearly 1,000 cases, including 25 homicides; and
 
WHEREAS, Judge Fisher was nominated by President George W. Bush <George%20W.%20Bush> and confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate <United%20States%20Senate> in <December%209><2003>; and
 
WHEREAS, prior to becoming a judge, Mike Fisher was elected Attorney General <Attorney%20General> of <Pennsylvania> in <1996> and re-elected in <2000>, he personally argued major cases in state and federal appellate courts, and in March <1998>, he successfully argued before the United States Supreme Court <United%20States%20Supreme%20Court> a precedent-setting case ensuring that paroled criminals meet the conditions of their release; and  
 
WHEREAS, before his election as Attorney General, Mike Fisher served for 22 years in the Pennsylvania General Assembly <Pennsylvania%20General%20Assembly>, serving six years in the State House <Pennsylvania%20House%20of%20Representatives> and 16 years as a member of the State Senate <Pennsylvania%20State%20Senate>, and in 2002, was the Republican candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Amen Corner for recognizing Judge D. Michael Fisher with the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence for his outstanding career and achievement in the field of law and justice; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Wednesday, April 10, 2013, to be "Judge D. Michael Fisher Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
