Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Women of Reform Judaism Atlantic District for its steadfast dedication and commitment to progressive ideals of Reform Judaism and congratulates the Women of Reform Judaism on their 100 year Anniversary. Special recognition is given to the Atlantic District Sisterhood Area Day under the leadership of Directors Esther Nathanson of Temple Sinai, Barbara Rogal of Rodef Shalom and Atlantic District President Marcia Levaur of Rodef Shalom ; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 14, 2013, to be “WOMEN OF REFORM JUDAISM'S ATLANIC DISTRICT SISTERHOOD AREA DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Women of Reform Judaism is the women's affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism and whose mission is to ensure the future of Reform Judaism by educating and training future sisterhood and congregational leadership about membership, fundraising, leadership skills, advocacy for social justice and innovative and spiritual programming ; and,

WHEREAS, Women of Reform Judaism is the collective voice and presence of women in congregational life, supporting the ideals and enhancing the quality of Jewish living to ensure the future of progressive Judaism in North America, Israel and around the world; and,

WHEREAS, founded in 1913 during a historic period of struggle for equality for women, the WRJ currently represents more than 65,000 women in nearly 500 congregations in North America and around the world. In our region, the WRJ Atlantic District is comprised of Sisterhoods that are located in New Jersey, parts of Ohio, PA and WVa and seeks to promote the aims of Women of Reform Judaism and support its projects; and,

WHEREAS, the Women of Reform Judaism Atlantic District is observing WRJ's 100th Anniversary on April 14, 2013 during its “Area Day” festivities and is featuring nationally renowned historian, Dr. Gary Zola of the American Jewish Archives speaking on 'Women of Reform Judaism: Profiles in Courage” which will highlight the brave women who dared to crate change in the early days of the Reform Movement; and,

WHEREAS, in honor of the occasion, Atlantic District Sisterhood Area Day planners have partnered with the Pittsburgh Conference of Jewish Women's Organizations in supporting NCJW's Personal Care Closet which collects full size personal care items for women in transition.
