Title: THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does thank Mike Gable for his 39 years of exemplary service to the City of Pittsburgh, its public spaces, and its residents, while further wishing Mike the best of luck in his future endeavors; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 19th 2013 “Mike Gable Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mike Gable started working for the City of Pittsburgh 39 years ago in June of 1973, when he took a seasonal job as a laborer in the Parks Department; and

WHEREAS, Mike worked his way through the ranks of the Parks Department, taking a fulltime laborer position in 1980; and

WHEREAS, in 1993 Mike moved to the Department of Public Works, where he begun to work in various administrative positions in the department, working towards the position of Operations Coordinator, Assistant Director and eventually Deputy Director of the Department of Public Works, imparting his passion for the City and its parks on his colleagues and the friends of Pittsburgh's parks along the way; and

WHEREAS, Mike's tireless dedication to our City's parks and residents is unparalleled, and is exemplified through his many years of service, throughout which he admirably demonstrated his love of, and respect for, the positive benefits of Pittsburgh's public green spaces; and

WHEREAS, Mike learned essential skills while achieving his certification as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) and graduating from the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Management School through North Carolina State University; and

WHEREAS, Mike's love for the outdoors expands into his personal life as well, where he is an avid fisherman always looking to angle a fresh walleye or largemouth bass; and

WHEREAS, Mike is a proud member of the neighborhood community of Morningside, where he was raised and eventually also established a home of his own; and

WHEREAS, even as Mike leaves the City Department of Public works to begin a new life-chapter, he will still miss the “100 jobs always there to be done” in the City's parks and other public spaces - a statement that is indicative of his deep commitment to his work and its numerous benefits to the residents of Pittsburgh;
