Title: Now, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 28, 2013 to be “Henry Hurt Day” in the City of Pittsburgh

Whereas, Henry Hurt's hard work and dedication as a city employee, a union leader, and a volunteer have helped make the City of Pittsburgh a better place to live for all; and,
 
Whereas, Henry Hurt began his career in audio-visual media during his service with the United States Army, and became a supervisor overseeing twenty-five personnel in the Sound Branch Operation Department in Fort Benning, Georgia; and,
 
Whereas, Henry Hurt was hired by City of Pittsburgh City Information Systems in 1984, where he began operating and maintaining television production equipment, in addition to assisting with editing material for City Channel Pittsburgh; and
 
Whereas, the City Channel provides an important link between citizens of Pittsburgh and local government by broadcasting City Council meetings and helping residents stay informed about other City government services and activities; and
 
Whereas, Henry Hurt also serves as President of AFSCME Local 2719, part of the nations' largest and fastest growing public service employees union; and
 
Whereas, in addition to his work as a City employee and a local union leader, Henry Hurt has demonstrated a commitment to volunteer work, participating in phone banks, and regularly taking senior citizens to the polls on election day, and
 
Whereas, the City of Pittsburgh bids farewell to Henry Hunt as he prepares to retire on March 28 of 2013, leaving behind a tough act to follow, as the City will sorely miss his breadth of knowledge and technical experience; and

Now, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 28, 2013 to be "Henry Hurt Day" in the City of Pittsburgh
