Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 17, 2013 be “Mother Florence Nelson Harper Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mother Florence Nelson Harper, a champion for education, peace, family and community, has faithfully served Enon Baptist Church in the Hill District for 70 years; and,
 
WHEREAS, Mother Harper is the sole surviving member of the original congregation at Enon Baptist Church, and is one of the reasons why the church still exists to this day; and,
 
WHEREAS, as Enon Baptist Church continues to serve the community, so does Mother Harper in her service through the church, as she has championed and advocated on behalf of Hill District residents for the last 70 years; and,  
 
WHEREAS, Mother Harper is one of the most respected congregant of the church, with members answering to her beckon call to participate in church projects that benefit the community they serve; and,
 
WHEREAS, her roles at Enon Baptist Church have taken on various forms, from working as a carpenter, a cook, and electrician, a painter, a plumber, a supervisor and a minister of music, a statement to her versatile talents and invaluable contributions to the church; and,
 
WHEREAS, a mother to six children and numerous grandchildren, Mother Harper is an active community member who has dutifully served the Hill District neighborhood through Enon Baptist Church for 70 years;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 17, 2013 be "Mother Florence Nelson Harper Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
