Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor Officer Forest Hodges' important work and does hereby declare Tuesday, March 19, 2013, to be “Forrest Hodges Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, a person's heritage and neighborhood can become a very important part of who they are, and many of life's most valuable of gifts are those that are given discreetly and without thought of reward; and

WHEREAS, Officer Forest Hodges, a lifelong resident of the Northside, has spent his years in the Pittsburgh Police making our city a safer and more livable place for all; and

WHEREAS, Officer Hodges joined the U.S Navy after graduating High School, where he advanced from an E-1 enlisted rate, up to an E-6 Petty Officer before receiving an honorable discharge; and

WHEREAS, Officer Hodges began his career with the Pittsburgh Police Department in June of 1994, and was assigned to walking a beat on Federal St. and East Ohio St., in addition to patrolling the North Side in a Zone 1 car; and

WHEREAS, after several years patrolling the streets, Officer Hodges was assigned to the Crime Analysis Division, and later appointed to Community Relations Officer; a position he still proudly holds today, and

WHEREAS, Officer Hodges has attended countless community and public safety meetings on the North Side, where he serves as an important link between North Side residents and Zone 1 Police, and

WHEREAS, On February 22, with the help of Fred Waine and others, Officer Hodges went above and beyond the call of duty to save the life of a man suffering from a heart attack, and

WHEREAS, after performing CPR and using an automatic defibrillator, the unresponsive victim began gasping for breath, and remained conscious until medics could arrive for further treatment, and;

WHEREAS, the selfless work from dedicated citizens like Officer Hodges and those that assisted him in saving a man's life, helps to make our city a better place for all;
