Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and thank Carol Peterson for her tireless dedication to Pittsburgh's history, which she actively illuminates through her varied efforts as a local historian, author, community organizer, and proud Lawrenceville resident; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 19th 2013 “Carol Peterson Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Carol Peterson moved to Lawrenceville in 1992 recognizing the rich historic architectural beauty of the Lawrenceville neighborhood and its rows of Victorian-style homes and storefronts; and

WHEREAS, Carol has dedicated countless hours to restoring homes in Lawrenceville, acting as one of Pittsburgh's foremost advocates for architectural history, faithful restoration, and preservation; and

WHEREAS, Carol's limitless passion for the uniqueness and character of Pittsburgh's historic structures led her to begin, in 1989, offering “House Histories” to those interested in tracing and reliving the storied past of their homes, including records of original building architects, past owners, and the events around which each house was built and changed hands over time; and

WHEREAS, Carol's House Histories were included in Rick Sebak's 25 Things I Like About Pittsburgh, exposing Carol's work to an even wider audience looking to map the genealogy of their homes and better understand the history of the City; and

WHEREAS, Carol's work as one of Pittsburgh's most active and outspoken architectural historians has allowed her to publicly advocate for preservation issues throughout the City, including her work leading the movement for the adaptive reuse and preservation of the former Iron City Brewery site and Carol's efforts to save countless houses with historic roots from demolition throughout the City of Pittsburgh; and

WHEREAS, as a founding member of the Lawrenceville Stakeholders neighborhood group, Carol has been able to help to organize numerous grassroots preservation efforts, creating a cohesive community of Lawrenceville residents focused on architectural integrity and balanced neighborhood development; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her grassroots organizing efforts, Carol recently co-authored the book Allegheny City: A History of Pittsburgh's North Side with Steelers owner and legendary North Side resident Dan Rooney; and
