Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby join with the colleagues, friends and family of Mike Radley to commend, recognize and congratulate him for 35 years of a job well done. The City of Pittsburgh is a better and more livable city for his having spent his outstanding career here; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 19, 2013, to be “MIKE RADLEY DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in the words of Teddy Roosevelt, “ Far and Away the best prize in life that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” The life and work of Mike Radley, currently the Director of Citiparks for the City of Pittsburgh and ready to retire after a successful career, has proven to be work worth doing; and,

WHEREAS, Mike Radley is a born and bred Pittsburgher, a lifelong resident of Brookline, a graduate of South Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh ; and,

WHEREAS, Mike Radley has been a Citiparks employee for the past 35 years, having had his first Citiparks job at the Ormsby Recreation Center in the South Side. Mike worked his way through the ranks of the department as a Recreation Leader , as the Special Events Coordinator and Manager of the Office of City Wide Special Events and as a Program Director and became the Assistant Director of Recreation in 1998, Assistant Director of Citiparks in 1999 and the Citiparks Director in 2009 ; and,

WHEREAS, Mike has worked along the course of the Great Race for 34 of the 35 years of Great Races, which is PA's largest 10K race and one of the top dozen largest 10Ks in the nation. Mike Radley has been the Race Director for The Great Race for the past 25 years. In addition, Mike has created a community footrace series that resulted in enhanced recreational programming for four city neighborhoods and is integrally involved with the Brookline Breeze, the Greenfield Glide and the Run Around the Square, and;

WHEREAS, Mike has been married 30+ years to his wife, Judi , and has two daughters Jillian and Katelyn, a son-in-law, Justin Petras , and one grandchild, Jocelyn Petras. He is and has been a Board Member of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, the International Children's Festival and the Riverview and Schenley Parks Centennial Celebrations.
