Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Ambassador Princeton Lyman for his inspirational work toward bringing peace to a troubled region; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 27, 2013 to be “Ambassador Princeton N. Lyman Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Ambassador Princeton N. Lyman's distinguished career has included work as executive director of the Global Interdependence Initiative at the Aspen Institute, as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, as U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, and much more; and
 
WHEREAS, Ambassador Lyman was appointed last year as the new U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan; and
 
WHEREAS, immediately preceding his tenure as Special Envoy, he served as U.S. Senior Advisor on North-South Negotiations, where he led the U.S. team focused on supporting on-going negotiations between the parties to Sudan's 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
 
WHEREAS, Lyman has worked tirelessly to oversee the path toward an independent South Sudan and the end of conflict in the region; and
 
WHEREAS, Ambassador Lyman will speak about the challenges that lie ahead for Sudan and South Sudan on Wednesday, February 27 at the Ford Institute for Human Security at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
