Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 26, 2013 to be “Officer Christine Luffey Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Officer Christine Luffey is a dedicated and engaged Community Resource Officer with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, frequently going above and beyond the call of duty, and will be celebrating 20 years of service this July; and,

WHEREAS, Officer Luffey is always willing to intervene and mediate in any crisis and uses her intermediary skills to bring many conflicts and disputes to satisfactory and peaceful resolutions; and,

WHEREAS, Officer Luffey has been instrumental in successfully expanding “Get Stuffed With Love,” an event where police officers assist Tom's Diner in delivering Thanksgiving Dinners to elderly residents within Zone 3, from 700 dinners delivered in 2009 to a record 1,031 dinners delivered in 2012; and,

WHEREAS, Officer Luffey planned and organized a fundraising event called “Pasta by Police with Love” which brought many police officers and community members together to help a family tragically victimized by a drunk driver; and,

WHEREAS, Officer Luffey spends much of her own time every year coordinating efforts for the Annual Biscuit Bingo with volunteers from Animal Friends, The Humane Society of Western PA, the SPCA and other organizations, and has helped to raise $9,000 in 2010, $11,300 in 2011, and $20,000 in 2012 for various animal related funds; and,

WHEREAS, Officer Luffey worked laboriously with agents from the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Officer Kathy Hecker from Animal Friends to gather sufficient evidence to bring about the arrest and apprehension on February 24, 2012, of a nationally-known, brutal, Pittsburgh dog-fighter in business since 1983; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Officer Luffey's many skills and talents, her dedication while both on and off duty and her civic commitment to the City during her nearly 20 years on the force; and,
